This course is designed to further public health leaders’ ability to navigate the
intersection of local governance and politics with public health as well as more
effectively understand and cultivate state and local relationships. Both areas are
essential to ensure the delivery of quality local public health services that address
the unique priorities and needs of each jurisdiction. The content is designed to
encompass 1) local governing and policy dynamics, varying local health
jurisdiction organizational structures, roles and responsibilities, and 2) the
navigation of state and local relationships across state agencies, boards of
supervisors and city councils, other local departments and agencies, community-based partners, health care delivery systems, and the community at large.
