Background
AB 133 (Chapter 143, Statutes of 2021) authorized DHCS to seek a State Plan Amendment (SPA) to add community health worker (CHW) services as a Medi-Cal covered benefit. DHCS intends to launch CHW covered services beginning July 1, 2022.
This benefit is anticipated to support services and activities associated with CalAIM. Additional information on the CalAIM Initiative is available here.
Stakeholder Advisory Group Information & Materials
DHCS has formed a Community Health Worker Medi-Cal Benefit Stakeholder Workgroup to solicit input on the state’s drafted SPA and discuss various design and implementation considerations.
