Background

The 2021 Budget Act authorized DHCS to seek a State Plan Amendment (SPA) to add doula services as a preventive service under the Medi-Cal program. Doula services include personal support to women and families throughout a woman’s pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum experience. DHCS intends to launch doula covered services beginning January 1, 2023.

Stakeholder Advisory Group Information & Materials

DHCS has formed a Doula Services as a Medi-Cal Benefit Stakeholder Workgroup to solicit input on the state’s drafted SPA and discuss various design and implementation considerations.
