Senate Rules Committee Confirms Ghaly as CHHS Secretary, Appointment Moves to Full Senate
On Wednesday, the Senate Rules Committee held a confirmation hearing for Mark Ghaly, MD, MPH, for the position of Secretary of the California Health and Human Services Agency (CHHS). Dr. Ghaly, in his remarks before the committee, highlighted his experience as a physician, public health professional, and health systems leader in San Francisco and Los Angeles and briefly discussed his approach to implementing the host of programs and services provided by CHHS. Questions from committee members consisted of topics such as public health emergency preparedness and response, chronic disease prevention and wellness promotion, substance use disorder and treatment services, and child protective and social services.
The Senate Rules Committee voted unanimously to confirm Dr. Ghaly. His confirmation now goes before the full Senate for consideration.
