Presidential Commission Releases Interim Recommendations on Opioid Crisis
This week, the President’s Commission on Combating Drug Addiction and the Opioid Crisis released an interim report on federal action items needed to address the rising opioid epidemic throughout the country. The Commission recommends the Trump Administration, among other actions, declare a national emergency, mandate prescriber education, immediately establish and fund a federal incentive to enhance Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT), and provide model legislation for states to increase the availability, prescribing, and use of naloxone. The interim draft report is available here. A final report with a set of detailed recommendations is expected later this fall.
