California Counties Sue Opioid Manufacturers

California counties are taking action legal action against pharmaceutical companies for falsely promoting the safety and efficacy of addictive prescription painkillers and contributing to the opioid crisis. The lawsuit joined by 30 counties, representing roughly 10.5 million Californians. Additional counties have filed individual suites against the pharmaceutical industry. This comes on the heels of nationwide litigation at the federal level, with over 500 public entities filing similar complaints.

The multi-county lawsuit seeks the repayment of public dollars that counties are utilizing in response to opioid addiction and seeks a new fund for prevention and substance use disorder treatment programs.
